Beam & Particle Collimators
Wolfmet tungsten alloys are precision-engineered for beam and particle collimators, delivering accurate, repeatable beam definition for medical imaging, radiotherapy, nuclear, and research applications.
RELIABLE BEAM DEFINITION
Wolfmet tungsten alloys combine precision, durability, and shielding efficiency to deliver reliable beam definition, minimal scatter, and robust long-term performance. With a density significantly higher than traditional shielding materials such as lead or steel, Wolfmet enables highly effective absorption and containment of high-energy photons and particles – within a considerably more compact geometry.
This allows engineers and designers to achieve precise beam shaping and shielding performance without unnecessary bulk – a critical advantage in the space-constrained environments typical of medical imaging suites, industrial inspection systems, and high-energy research facilities.

Whether you need a standard collimator form or a fully bespoke geometry, our engineered can advise on the right tungsten alloy solution for your application.

PRECISION MACHINED TUNGSTEN ALLOY COLLIMATORS
We produce collimators in a wide range of forms – including multi-pinhole, parallel, lofthole, dual-resolution, and divergent configurations. We also manufacture coded-aperture masks, nested masks, and round, square, or hexagonal grids, all machined to close tolerances using CNC precision equipment.
3D Printed tungsten collimators
We can also manufacture collimators using Wolfmet 3D – our selective laser melting (SLM) additive manufacturing process, which builds components by fusing successive layers of pure tungsten powder to create dense, high-integrity structures.
The benefits of this process include the production of highly complex component designs and geometries not achievable with traditional milling and turning, reduced scatter due to denser septa, and improved image accuracy compared with traditional lead collimators.

ENGINEERING EXPERTISE AND MANUFACTURING PARTNERSHIP
Wolfmet tungsten alloy is an excellent material for gamma and particle collimators – and the engineering team behind it brings over 40 years of manufacturing experience to every project. We work in close partnership with customers to develop bespoke tungsten collimation solutions for applications where standard off-the-shelf components will not meet the required specification.
From nuclear medicine equipment and linear accelerators to oil and gas exploration tools, cargo scanners, isotope containers, and process control systems – a wide range of demanding applications benefit from the superior shielding and precision machining properties of Wolfmet tungsten alloy.
